Damn Yankees!!! Todd Jones gives up five runs in the eleventh inning to waste a great comeback by the Tigers. I never thought I would say this, but the Tigers are going to miss Mike Maroth. Roman Colon made his first start of the year and did not pitch well. He gave up five runs on seven hits in just 2.1 innings. Bobby Seay pitched the next two innings allowing a single run on three hits. The bullpen kept Detroit in the game. Jason Grilli, Joel Zumaya and Fernando Rodney combined for 4.2 scoreless innings. The Rollercoaster pitched a 1-2-3 tenth before imploding in the eleventh. This was a disappointing loss for the Tigers after clawing their way back into the game. Pudge Rodriguez started the comeback for the Tigers with a solo home run in the third. Pudge continued the hot hitting with a two run triple in the fifth and scored on a single by Ordonez. The three run fifth pulled the Tigers within two runs. They cut the lead to a single run in the sixth when Inge doubled and came home on a single by Granderson. Detroit tied the game in the eighth, but wasted an opportunity to win the game. Detroit loaded the bases with no outs and only scored one run. Inge grounded into a fielder choice knotting the game at six. With runners on the corners and only one out Granderson and Polanco both struck out. This missed opportunity really cost the Tigers this game. *** OEs 3 Stars of the Game *** #3 Magglio Ordonez – 2-5 with a RBI #2 Joel Zumaya – 2.1 IP, 1 Hs, 0 Rs, 0 BBs, 4 Ks, 2.92 ERA #1 Ivan Rodriguez – 3-5 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI On Tap – Game 53 (35-17) v.
